Dr Cindy Bell

CINDY L. BELL joined the music faculty of Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY in January 2008 as Associate Professor of Music Education and Director of the 75-voice University Choir. This follows an eight-year tenure at Queens College, City University of New York (CUNY). She teaches graduate and undergraduate music education courses, supervises student teachers and coordinates the graduate program in music education.

Dr. Bell is a specialist in choral music education and teacher training, presents clinics and workshops at state, divisional and national music education and choral conferences, and has published articles in several music education journals. She has previously taught public school choral music, produced musical theatre, directed church choirs, and is busy as a guest conductor for choir festivals, from youth through adult singers. Dr. Bell is a regular conductor in the one of the largest sacred choral gatherings on the East Coast - a choir of 1500 singers - at the Annual Choir Festival in her hometown of Ocean Grove, NJ.  Her varied choral experiences include singing with Fred Waring, Donald Neuen, Robert Shaw, Gregg Smith and John Rutter.

Since 1996, Dr. Bell has directed the Mariners Chorus at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY, one of the nation’s five federal academies. This group performs locally for civic and military ceremonies, and travels each year to Washington, D.C., for National Maritime Day Festivities. Dr. Bell earned a Bachelors degree Magna Cum Laude from Lycoming College (Williamsport, PA), a Master of Music degree in choral conducting at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester (NY), and a Doctorate in Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, NY.
