Our Guest Tenor Soloist for the Handel:
JAMES ARCHIE WORLEY,
our guest tenor soloist, was recently added to the roster
of the Metropolitan Opera. He performed the role of La Sposo
in Carl Orff's Trionfo di Afrodite with the American Symphony
Orchestra at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall. He also
sang the role of the Laboureur in Chausson's Le Roi Arthus
with the American Symphony Orchestra and can be heard on
its recently released recording of Strauss's Die Liebe Der
Danae. He sang the role of the Gondolier in Rossini's Otello
this past summer at the Caramoor Music Festival with conductor
Will Crutchfield. In Beijing, he performed in Verdi's Requiem
with the Oratorio Society of New York and members of the
Chinese National Opera Chorus and Orchestra.
In New Jersey, Archie sang in Haydn's Creation with the Masterwork
Chorus, in Mendelssohn's Elijah and Dominick Argento's Jonah
and the Whale with the Monmouth Civic Chorus, and in J.S.
Bach's Passion According to St. John with the Princeton University
Chapel Choir. He recently sang with the New York Philharmonic
in Michael Torke's Four Seasons under the direction of Maestro
Kurt Masur and in a performance and recording of Stephen Sondheim's
Sweeney Todd.
Archie premiered P.D.Q. Bach's newly discovered Four Next-to-Last
Songs with Peter Schickele at the piano and sang in P.D.Q.
Bach's Blaues Gras Cantata at Carnegie Hall. He also premiered
and recorded Paul Moravec's song cycle, Naked Simplicities,
and Christian Heim's Four Sufi Legends (written for Archie).
His recordings also include: the role of the King in Philip
Glass's The Witches of Venice.
